Al Gardner, aka Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian, was a great Armenian-American oud player, qanun player, and clarinetist who wrote many adventurous original compositions, collected here for the first time.

Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian was born in 1950 into a thriving Armenian-American community in Watertown, Massachusetts. He began playing the oud as a child, influenced by the popular musicians George Mgrdichian and Richard Hagopian. He went on to study jazz at Berklee College of Music in Boston while making a living playing in the local Greek music scene. He studied Ottoman classical music under Kanun master Esber Koprucu, beginning in 1977 and continuing until Koprucu's death in 2002. He also explore Arabic and Persian music, and worked closely with Simon Shaheen at his annual Arabic Music Retreat, and remained an important figure in the American Middle-Eastern music community until he sadly passed away in November 2006 at the age of just 56.

This is a special collection of music by a modern master, highly recommended.
