This is a collection of sheet music for instrumental music such as Sama'is, Bashrafs, and Longas. The focus is on pieces by Arab composers and on Ottoman pieces that have become part of the Arab repertoire.
It contains 33 pieces, for a total of 66 pages of music. To make reading and performing easier, the book has comb binding so that it will lay flat when open, and all the music is on facing pages so that no page turns are necessary. The music is professionally notated, using standard Arabic notation (Western notation with quarter-tone accidentals).
These are all new transcriptions. Each transcription is derived from multiple recorded and printed reference sources for the highest degree of accuracy and completeness. Since the music stems from an aural tradition that spans multiple cultures and communities over many decades, an effort was made toward inclusiveness. Rather than attempting to promote an "authoritative" version, alternate variations are included when appropriate so that the player may make their own choices.
